Why Forgiveness??????

Forgiveness is still looked upon as weakness in today's world.  There are those of us that believe the opposite, Forgiveness is a sign of "Strength"!

Why as a culture do we strive to hold onto our hurts?  Could it be learned behavior?  Typically when children have disagreements. Such as an I'm sorry, a kiss or even an handshake resolves the issue(s).  However, fast forward to our teenage years and beyond, some one does something to us and we are pissed off!

The list looks like:  A break up, did not show compassion when the dog died, hated your grandmothers recipe for chocolate chip cookies, got all the girls or got all the guys and the litany list goes on.  But why do we hold on?  We know it's not good for the body.  Doctors attribute almost everything disease in some way to stress which is generally tied to unforgiveness.  Ever notice that most, if not all, constipation products are marketed to older adults?  Folks I know you are laughing however, constipation is rare in younger children and teens as well as younger adults.  However, as we age we are strangled by burdens, jobs that we hate, bosses that we hate, husband and or wife that left us for our best fiends, got passed over for a promotion, and so on and so on and so on.

What if getting to the destination that you want to be in acting was based on forgiving all of you past hurts?  Something to think about.

Look around the world we are still fighting over issues that happened prior to the coming of Christ!

However, take heart, there are folks who practice forgiveness readily and we are in amazement at them.  Paraphasing here, Mandella, said that "Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and hoping that your enemy will die".  Age has made forgiveness easier for me.  The stress that I put on my mind that affected my body holding onto to past hurts simply is of no interest to me any longer.  In short, I wish you the best with your craziness!

In the community in which I was raised they held the paradigm that unforgiveness blocked your blessings and desires.

Now the ball is in your court what are you hanging onto that deserves forgiveness because you have outgrown the hurt.  For those of you determined to hold onto the hurts enjoy your chemo theraphy!

Gratitude and Success

Could gratitude really generate success?  Every day I write down or verbally state aloud all the things that I am grateful for.  Why?  You know our minds, advertisements, people and everything else in our world tell us what we are missing.  For women it's a never ending list!  In today's world, men are a shorter distance behind women.  I have read the science behind this mode of thought.   Today's medical doctors speak of the impact of treating a patient with gratitude supported by a positive attitude and treating patients that lack gratitude supported by a poor attitude.  I think you all know the answer people gratitude see better results 2 to 1.  I am so grateful to have each of you on my talent roster!

Therefore the next time the day presents you with what appears to be a bad day, the incorrect outcome, and all things deemed bad....present your gratitude list.  Start with the following in order to experience this so called bad day I would have to be alive therefore, I am grateful.  Folks all due respects, the morgue is one cold and love place.  So not looking forward to arriving there.  Make your list as long as possible.  Its okay to mention some of the same things over and over again such being alive, in good health, the ability to read and write, having and agent that supports your goals rather than not......Would love to see you gratitude lists.  So post a few that we are all see!

So appreciative of all who read and refer this blog.

Why We Often Need Coaches In Our Lives

All this talk about "Thoughts and Thinking" where is it going?  My ultimate goal to enrich all of our "Collective" lives.

Just so you know I too have a business as well as spiritual coach.  I had a phone session with her on Thursday.  In a word, painful. I controlled the need to lash out back at her.  Something inside of me side said, listen, take notes and make adjustments. In the end, the question she presented to me, to present to myself was: How bad do you want this success for you and those around?  Well you can guess my answer.

For me its not about figuring out what I am doing wrong its about making the changes in my subconscious thinking that allows for change.  Additionally, as she shouted through the phone at me I thought about coaches like Mike Ditka, that would yell and scream at his players, often criticized by others for his methods.  However, they won! Other rough and tough coaches Lombardi who built at Dynasty and of course, many more! So often like me our our limiting beliefs are so deep inside it often takes the yelling and screaming at me/us to cause me/us to let go of the of the limiting beliefs.

Jackie Joyner Kersee husband, Al, whom was an Olympian himself coached her to her great Decathlon win!  His methods were constantly criticized.  He screamed and yelled and pushed her even when she was sick. Al also coached Gail Devers, whom had tremendous problems with her feet.  She was told she would never walk much less go onto win multiple gold metals.  Al's coaching methods were harsh, the athletes allowed it because they were willing to let go of their own limiting beliefs in order to obtain the outcome they desired.  That's what this teaching is aboutwhether you are willing to let go of your limiting beliefs even though you may not be conscious of them.  In the end its your choice!  I believe just getting becoming conscious of our "Collective" thoughts is helpful.

I have another person that I once represented that Al wanted to coach.  She told me everyone that Al coached won!  She declared she simply could not put up with this methods.  As you can imagine i begged her to give him a try.  I asked her to imagine herself on the podium accepting her metal and reaping the rewards that the title can often bring.  Sadly, her answer, no!  At that time she had been a 5 times Olympian however, never won a metal.  I am asking my actors to be conscious of their thoughts.

A coach that most of us know by name Phil Jackson, former long time coach of the LA Lakers, they called him the "Zin Master".  The play book was about understanding the tri angle.   However, Phil got into his players mind set and therefore, created a Laker Dynasty!  Hum....the Lakers after the "Zin Master" well....we all know that story.  Folks our thoughts are powerful and we have the ability to change things with our thoughts!

Questions to Present to Yourself:
  • Who do you spend the most time with?
  • How much television are you watching?
  • In conversation what are you talking about?
  • How much time do you spend judging and speaking ill of others?
  • Most important how do you feel most of the time?  Are you walking around on auto pilot?
Actors how often do you tell yourself that the guy/girl over there is the best? I'll agree with you here knowing that He/She is the best because everyone focuses their energy towards him/her most important, casting professionals.  Same things with agency reputation(s).  Watch what will happens if the large percentage of us change our "Collective" thinking!  The universe will kick in and as in sports world we, too will be known as Champions!

Do the work as I work on Part 2 of "Collective Thinking".

What Newborn's Know

All this talk about "Thinking"!  if it was true wouldn't we have been programmed at birth?  Babies are actually born with many innate abilities. Ever look at a new born?  When their eyes are open they are in amazement.  They learn at a warped speed!  Sociologists tell us that our core values are most often learned by age 8.  I Know unbelievable!  Ever notice babies come in the world with a built mechanism for manifesting or commanding what they want to come to past immediately?  Ask any parent its called "screaming"!  Babies are not born with the ability to talk their mode of communication is smiling or screaming.  When babies need immediately attention food, change of diaper, to be held, they cry.  A signal is sent through the brain and the cry generally start slow ask any mom once its at full speed one has to move!

I should note, here on the flip side, Sociologist tell us, when an infants needs are not met, as adults they most often face life long emotional repercussions.

Having said that, babies have the ability with their cry to move anyone around them whether you know them or their parents or not.  Ever been in a public place when an infant starts to cry?    Everyone turns to see why the infant is crying.  If the parents does nothing, Some One IGoing TDoSomething!  That's powerful!

Is there anyone that can tell me why if we have this kind of power at birth, we somehow loose it when we begin to talk and become adults?

Yes, I do understand that as adults we can not go around screaming and crying however, infants do tell us that we have the power within ourselves to manifest the outcome of our desires without the ability to communicate with words.  It goes to say the ability comes from with us.  If that is so we all must be very powerful.  Could it be by the time we are adults we have lost or either been socialized out of our birth sense of internal power??????????????????????????????????????????

Just a thought on our way to Part 2 of Collective Thought!

Collective Thoughts: Part One
Collective thoughts, or thought, is a rarely used terminology in the workplace or in society at large unless one seeks out specialized training with those who train top producers.  Collective thought is simply the dominate thoughts of an individual and/or group.  For example, ever visit a court house or a post office?  Good God almighty, you can see the misery in the workers face and actions prior to getting to the counter.  Let there be a God to protect you/us when the communication starts; they hate their jobs and you are going to hear and/or feel it, your choice!  The collective thoughts of the large majority of these organizations is: I hate my job, it does not pay me enough, this isn't the job I wanted to do, I am doing it because I am married and have a family, it’s safe, it’s the only job I could get because I did or did not go to college, and the litany list goes on.  Sometimes you meet a few that break with dominate collective thought; however, it’s few and far between.
The easiest way to understand collective thought is to watch athletes.  Coaching staffs place high emphasis on collective thought.  Simply, every team member must have the same goal.  Win, Win, Win!  Anything short of winning is simply not discussed.  Peyton Manning says he reviews hours and hours of tape prior to playing against the opposing team.  He can determine how the opposing team thinks by how they play.  It can be done!  Can you imagine athletes in the NFL constantly telling themselves that another team is better than them and lining up to play against that/those team(s)? The Cinderella team concept is a great example of collective thought.  No matter what the odds are against this no name or unknown team, the Cinderella team wins because of collective thought. Each team member commits in their mind to winning.  This is the reason why people love athletes; they do what others only dream of doing.  They predict the outcome of the game prior to it.  We have seen these predictions in the NFL as far back as Joe Namath. We all sit, hold our breathe and cheer them on as they cross the finish line, score the amazing basket, catch the uncatchable ball, and so forth.

Another technique used effectively by athletes is "Visualization".   Top athletes put as much time into visualization as they do learning and executing the plays in the playbook.  I watched my nephew, who was an elite athlete, utilized this technique while in high school.  He used go to the Rose Bowl and walk up and down the field.  He said, he needed to fill the dirt and grass under his feet.  He also had his dad throw the football to him; he told me, “Auntie, one day I am going to play in the Rose Bowl Game.”  I replied, “They call it the Grand Daddy of them all.”  I forgot about his prediction; remember he was in maybe 9th/10th grade, if that. Almost 5 years or so later, I was sitting the stadium, at the Grand Daddy of them all, the Rose Bowl Game, screaming my head off as I watched him run onto the field, with his team, and I had to fight back the tears.  Folks visualization works!   What's stopping you is you is the thoughts that you are holding daily in your mind.  Time and time again I ask my actors not to thank me for working hard on their behalf.  Because I know if I tell the mind it’s going to be hard, it will be hard. I like to hold the thought in my mind that I am a highly focused worker.

Beverly Agency Actors it’s the thoughts that you are holding in your mind that is driving your results.

Perfect example, I have a client I sent to two auditions. I could almost predict that he or she would not book either job because their focus was on getting into the audition early in order to get back to their day job.  Their mind never considered booking the job, the actor had given the mind repeatedly I have to get into the audition and get back to my day job because that's what's important to me.  Now if you question the actor, they will tell you that you are wrong! However, the brain works like a computer, whatever you program it to do, it will do! I should mention here a great deal of your programming comes from your family and those that you send a great deal of time with.

A player is injured and the team loses just by missing that one player; it’s his energy and thought that the team is missing even more than his physical presence. In many cases they lose because they collectively tell themselves they cannot win without that person.  Yes, the opposite does happen.  And when it does happen we all cheer loudly!  Star player(s) are injured and the bench does what?  Steps up!  All the visualization and thought is challenged to activate immediately and at the right moment it all comes together.
This is what should happen with actors when you are not getting auditions.  Focus on preparing yourself for when you are in the room auditioning.  Focus on training.  Do local theatre.  Attend workshop and stay away from asking questions that will give you answers to feed you own self doubt.  Tell the mind that you book without the audition process.  Tell yourself you are memorable and casting directors, producers, and/or directors are contacting your agency right now to offer you role(s).  Tell yourself that you are memorable and casting directors bring you in because they remember prior performances whether you booked the job or not!  Repeated affirmations.  Come up with a ritual that best suits you.

Caution...woe be the actor that shares this information with folks (folks includes parents, family members, friendenemies, boyfriends, girlfriends, co-worker’s, sometimes even industry professionals) who do not understand this concept.  Know this, you will be greeted with such negativity that you will cause yourself never to believe in anything you want to achieve ever again.  Negativity is very heavy as well as powerful, a weak mind is easily squashed!

No matter what position you play in the NFL, whether you play every game or not, you are mandated to attend practice and go through the motions, over and over again.  The coach knows and will never let you forget that they may have to call on you in a clutch situation and (Fools, your mind has to be ready) your body operates through signals sent from the brain.  You do not see through your eyes, you see from signals sent from your brain to your eyes.  People, if you are not feeling, some excitement right now, this article is 100% correct in its assertions.  Your results are tied to your mind.

My results are tied to your mind.  I can present you with opportunity after opportunity and you show up; however, like on Sunday, Monday, and even Thursday night Football, if the mind is not showing up, you are in an industry workshop crying about what you never get and having the madness reinforced.  Again, stop looking outside of yourself for answers.  Cut It Out!  Cut it out!  Cut it out!  The real answers are inside of you!  Contemplate these words for a few days and I'll be back at you with Part 2!

Checking In and Out of the Agency

The easiest way to tell whether an actor is a seasoned professional  lies in how he or she handles their business.

Non professionals always blame others for their results.  It’s  their agent, their manager and a list too long for me to include here.

Professional s advise their agency of the date(s) that they are going be unavailable not once but several times prior to leaving.  This practice include half days as well.  When professionals return, get settled, the first thing they do is contact the agency to let the agency know they are now available for work.

If they do not hear from their agency for some time rarely do professionals get” Pissed”. Professionals contact the Agency either by phone mostly email!
Amateurs get pissed and most often they never call or email the agency.  They sit home and conjure up something to complain about.  In general actors spend too much time complaining, gripping, self thoathing, criticizing, and the W word worrying.  And there is no shortage of teachers, managersfamily members and so called industry professionals willing to engage in the madness with you.  Cut it out!

Agents most often have so much to do during the day they do not welcome telephone calls.

As for me, I like my clients to check in with me preferably via email.  It’s so important that you stay Connected.  I like it when I get emails that say I am available.  Its remind me to focus on that person even more.  The actor is eager to work!

Also I enjoy reading what actors are on doing on their own behalf.  It’s exciting and sometime it adds to my do list.

It’s your business check in and out as needed.  Follow us on social media.  Stay Connected!!!!!!
How Your Attitude Affects Your Results

I think We all agree that the Entertainment industry is like no other.  What is widely missing for many actors is the ability to check their own Emotional Temperature (attitude) day by day, moment by moment, minute by minute and so forth.

I watch athlete’s constantly.  When they arrived at the game they are ready to go!  Whatever has happened prior to the game is to no avail while they are preforming.  In many cases even energies no stop them.  They possess a not going to affect my game attitude.

Olympic diver Greg Louganis had hit his head during one of his dives.  Unbeknownst to those watching Greg had been diagnosis with HIV.  One dive later he is on the podium receiving his Gold Metal.  Kolby Bryant was facing rape charges and a relentless Media .   Never appeared to bother him, he scored more points during the scandal than he did prior to the scandal.

What can we learn from athlete’s?  Attitude, attitude, attitude!   In generally actors spend too much time complaining, gripping, self thoathing, criticizing, and the W word Worrying.  And there is no shortage of teachers, managersfamily members and so called industry professionals willing to engage in the madness with you.  Cut it out!  Be aware of your emotional temperature at all times.  Typically a pissed off person never books and when they do its Hell on those around them.  Pissed is an energy; first cousins to anger, discouragement, depression and much, much more.  And it’s Hell on the body.  Anger is a leading cause of some Cancers.  Ever hear the term, “They worried themselves to death”?

All actors check your emotional temperature all day every day.  The town that I was raised in said, a bad attitude blocked your blessings.  Yes, there are always exceptions to the rule.  I guess if you are always going to be pissed enjoy your Chemo Theraphy
Throw away words or terms such as I am having a bad day, I have to work so hard, nobody is doing anything for me therefore, I have to do it myself (victim)and the real blessings blocker, is this term  I am not getting, the more you use it, the more it rains true in your life. (Again, victim)!

Yes, we have challenges in our lives however we choose the emotions that we attach to the challenges.

Part 2

Beverly Agency Advice

Actors are professionals.  You knew when you signed up for the process you were not paid for most auditions.  There are some SAG exceptions however, for the most part just if you were interviewing for a job in the Corporate World, you are to conduct yourself as a professional!  You may believe that the role is not right for you.  You are entitled to your opinion and sometimes you may be right and in speaking with your agent you may come to a conclusion that its simply nor right for you.  However, it your game is simply to pick and choose, not show up and to tell your agent what to do,  when you are not paying them expect them to too Dump you like a bad habit!  There are exceptions however, agents look for actor who are hustlers, go getters, ready to work now, available, with the ability to deal with difficult casting professionals if need be, make great choices when auditioning, on time, attacking role(s) in which what they had not seem themselves as booking.  Who would have believed Brian Cranston as drug distributor based on his past roles?

Remember this we are in a rapidly changing world.  Now the booking process is turned up too super fast.  Whatever the venue(s) when they call to book you or even to see you, you have to be ready to go!  I use to get calls from Leno literally hours before the scenes were supposed to shot.  My actor was 80+ years of age and never missed a booking.  She understood her role as a professional.  I am suggesting to all actors take your opportunities seriously or simply get out of the business!

Take a look at what I get from casting directors weekly or sometime several times a week.  This one the casting director chose polite words usually...hum......not so nice.

The last several jobs I've done, the amount of cancels are out of control. Not only that but the amount of people that are confirmed that all of a sudden cancel right before they're due to come here is astronomical. It is so unfair to the actors in this town that want to work. I implore you to send out a mass email to your rosters once again reminding them that this is a job interview not a hobby. Not only that, I need you to start being honest and not just confirming people when they are not in fact confirmed.

I have to look through over a thousand submissions per role on average. I usually select 30 people max. That takes a lot of time and energy, if you know me at all I'm an equal opportunity casting director that actually goes through every submission. I'd appreciate if the same respect was given to me from you and your talent. Let's have a wake up call to remind actors that this is a serious business and remind their theatrical reps to communicate with you. Thanks.

No one should have to send you anything concerning availability.  Here's how it works if you want to be seen as a professional, go about acting like one, show up on time, with headshot and resume in hand,  forget deciding whether casting processional need the headshot, if they do you have it, if they don't shove it some where until the process has been completed. know your sides, if they give you side that you did not know you were supposed to prepare, immediately compose yourself,  do not spend any time telling anyone that you did not get the sides unless they ask, make a brief statement and leave it all on the casting floor, check in when you get there, work with your agent instead of against them,  update your casting sites often paricularly with new credits, if your headshots needs updating get it done and last but no least get yourself a demo reel.  So many casting decisions are made from demos and resume, don't miss out on a booking because you do not have the necessary tools.  Last but not least, if you really can not respect the process God Bless and take yourself onto another industry.

Audition No-Show(s)

Constructive Advice from The Beverly Office. (Part One)

Of late there has been a torrid increase in the number of actors not showing up to auditions.  Seems as though the audition process has become simply too cumbersome.  So often my actors ask me if they can self tape instead of attending the audition.  Although, self taping is the wave of the future, as of now, the casting process entails you showing up to perform in front of casting processionals.  This process is to be highly respected by acting professionals.  At this point as a talent agent I am seeing a blatant disrespect for the audition process.  For any actor on my roster let this be a wake up call.As a talent agent nothing is more upsetting than for an actor to believe that he or she is too good for the audition process.  Or better yet they can pick and choose which audition(s) they will attend.

Believe me I understand as your resume grows you do have the option of yes or no!  However, woe be the actor that is disrespecting what so many others have fought so hard to build. The industry has set up the talent agent, actor relationship, to be one that is unpaid unless there is a booking involved.  Further talent agents have to book 6 figure job(s) for the larger majority of their talent to even make the process profitable remember its 10% on all Union jobs.  For those of you who skipped your Math Classes as well here are some numbers for you to review based on 10%:100.00 = 10.00 for T/A, 500.00 50.00 for T/A, 1000.00 100.00 for T/A ,10,000.00 1000.00 for T/A.  These numbers alone should tell you why so many talent agencies close their doors.

You really have to be focused and have your talent booking not only multiple projects but with multiple actors attached.    So often we forgo our profits to ensure that actors obtain work, particularly, if the actor is in the building process of their careers.  What happens so often is an actor attends an industry workshop and someone who has never worked as an agent or worked as an agent 10 years ago gets up as says, let me tell you what I would do.  I would tell a person who is working on my behalf, for free, (the agent) that this is the way things are going to go.  Now this Agent who gives up hours of their time to get you in front of casting professionals and I, actor,  will reward you, agent, with a no show, bad attitude, late arrival, poor behavior with casting professionals and I expect for you, agent, to continue working for free on my behalf.

Of course, when the agent does continue to offer you work opportunities,  by the way, any good agent, worth their salt is not going to put up that kind of attitude, you actor now feel victimized.

Baseball sensation Mo'ne Davis' impact on girls and boys!

Great story! We love this!

The message to girls is pursue your dreams no matter what, said Orender, who has created a nonprofit called Generation W focusing on inspiring women and girls. "Go do what you think you want to do and do your best because you know there's some mound waiting for you to make your best pitch on."

This same advice applies to actors. You can pursue your dreams no matter what!
A TRIBUTE TO A GREAT

Robin Williams.

We cannot express how deeply saddened we are by the news of Robin Williams. He was not just a talented actor, but an incredibly warm and kind human being who touched the lives of many.

Below we post the words of President Obama.

“Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien - but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit,” Obama said in a statement, referring to Williams’ role in “Mork & Mindy.”
“He made us laugh. He made us cry. He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most — from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets. The Obama family offers our condolences to Robin's family, his friends, and everyone who found their voice and their verse thanks to Robin Williams.”
- Barack Obama

We will never forget.  1951-2014

Happy Birthday Beverly Hills!!

This year we Celebrate the 100th birthday of Beverly Hills!

Beverly Hills was incorporated in 1914 by a group of investors who had failed to find oil but found water instead and eventually decided to develop it into a town. It is now home to 34,290 inhabitants.

Sometimes merely known by one of its primary zip codes, "90210", it has been home to actors and celebrities for decades.

We are very happy to be here, and wishing this fabulous city the very best!
